AWIEF Pitch n Grow 2026 Funding Opportunity for African Women Entrepreneurs

The Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) has officially opened applications for Pitch n Grow 2026, its flagship annual women entrepreneurship pitch competition. Designed to identify, develop, and amplify high-potential women-led ventures across the continent, the programme offers selected participants access to mentorship, investor exposure, training, and a live pitch platform at the AWIEF 2026 Conference in Cape Town.

About AWIEF and Pitch n Grow

Pitch n Grow is the flagship entrepreneurship competition of the Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF). Rather than simply awarding prize money, the programme identifies promising women-led businesses and helps founders become investment-ready through training, mentorship and exposure to investors.

AWIEF is a pan-African non-profit organisation with Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It has been running its annual conference since 2015 and is widely recognised as one of Africa’s leading platforms for women in business and innovation.

The 2026 theme, “Deep Roots. Digital Futures.”, encourages entrepreneurs to develop technology-driven solutions that address African challenges using local knowledge and innovation.

  • Early-Stage with a registered startup with active customers and revenue.
  • Growth-Stage and read to scale with proven traction and ready to push into new markets.

The following are key disqualifying factors:

  • The business does not have a technology component
  • The business operates entirely outside of the African continent
  • The female lead applicant is not a registered legal owner of the business

  • Evidence of market demand where applicable

Why This Prize Matters

The structural funding gap facing women-led businesses across Africa remains significant. Women-led startups attracted less than 1% of total venture capital on the continent in 2024. This disparity reflects systemic barriers across the investment chain, including risk perception, evaluation bias, and limited investor networks available to female founders.

Pitch n Grow addresses several of these barriers directly. Its three-track structure is notably inclusive. Few comparable programmes accommodate ventures at concept stage alongside those already achieving regional scale. This approach recognises that the barriers women entrepreneurs face are not uniform across the business lifecycle, and that a narrow mandate is not always the most effective.

For South African-based founders in particular, the Cape Town finals offer a compelling additional advantage. Founders in the city have proximity to one of the continent’s most active investor ecosystems, combined with the international reach that the AWIEF Conference platform provides.

Even businesses that do not ultimately win can benefit significantly from the visibility, training and networking opportunities provided throughout the programme.

Further Information

One of our core objectives at Business Geniuses is to empower small businesses and startups by curating funding opportunities as they arise. Visit our Funding section for other opportunities that may be open for applications.

While formal company registration is not always a prerequisite for accessing funding, it is crucial for formalised entities to maintain compliance. A lack of proper governance can completely hinder any prospects of funding. For guides and articles on governance, please refer to the Governance section of our site.
